The LORD's Servant - Psalms 116:16

In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist said, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse sixteen of Psalms the Psalmist said, “O LORD, truly I am your servant” where we read,

O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid:

you have loosed my bonds.

The verse begins with the words, O LORD, truly I am your servant; The Psalmist began with the words, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “truly I am your servant” which means “ah now, I, the Psalmist, exist as your, Jehovah God's, slave, worshiper and bondman”. The Psalmist declared to Jehovah God that he was certainly and indeed His bondman and worshiper.

The verse goes on to say, “I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have loosed my bonds.” The Psalmist continued with the words, “I am your servant” or “I, the Psalmist, exist as your, Jehovah God's, slave, worshiper and bondman”, “and the son” which means “and the male offspring, descendant and progeny” “of your handmaid” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, maid-servant or female slave”: “you have loosed” which means “you, Jehovah God, have thrown open, freed and broke forth” “my bonds” or “my, the Psalmist's, halters, restraints or chastisements”. The Psalmist said that he was Jehovah God's bond servant and male offspring, and he acknowledged God setting him free from his restraints and bands.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist declared his commitment to Jehovah God as his willing “servant” as he knew life and breath came from God. The Psalmist, though restricted by the bands he wore, knew God's desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone. He later proved His love for people by sending His Son Jesus into the world to died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the opportunity to “serve” Him all the days of our lives.

Next time the Psalmist shares about, “the sacrifice of thanksgiving”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
