The Evil Bow Before the Good - Proverbs 14:19

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge”, and in chapter fourteen and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the evil bow before the good” where we read,

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

The verse begins, “The evil bow before the good;” Solomon began with the words, “the evil” or “the people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, wicked and hostile to God” “bow before the good” which means “prostrate, humble and lay themselves down in the presence and face of people who are pleasant, agreeable and excellent”. Solomon shared how people who are wicked and hostile to God prostrate themselves in front of people who are pleasant and agreeable.

The verse goes on to say, “and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the wicked” or “and the people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “at the gates of the righteous” which means “over and beyond the openings, doors or ports of the city, town and court belonging to people who are right, just, correct and lawful”. Solomon said people who are evil will also bow in front of the ports of the cities belonging to people who are just, lawful and correct.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there will be a day when people who are “righteous before God” through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for their sins, will have the “evil and wicked” of the world to prostrate themselves before them. God desires to have every person come to Him thru Jesus, and when they humble themselves, repent of their sins and yield to Him as “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins, grant them everlasting life and encourage in the future where “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (See Philippians 2:10).

Next time Solomon says, “the poor is hated even of his own neighbor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
