In the book of Proverbs Solomon said of wisdom, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me”, and in chapter eight and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “riches and honor are with me” where we read,
Riches and honor are with me; yes, durable riches and righteousness.
The verse begins, “Riches and honor are with me;” Solomon began with the words, “riches and honor” or “wealth and glory, abundance, splendor and dignity” “are with me” which means “exist alongside and beside me, wisdom”. Solomon shared how “wealth and splendor” exist alongside the use of “wisdom”.
The verse goes on to say, “yes, durable riches and righteousness.” Solomon continued with the words, “yes, durable riches” or “even so, also and indeed, advanced, valuable, eminent and surpassing wealth, substance, price and high value”, “and righteousness” which means “and justice, truthfulness, justification and what is ethically right”. Solomon said both valuable and surpassing wealth as well as justice and what is ethically right accompany “wisdom” in a person's life.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how valuable wealth and splendorous dignity accompany conducting ourselves in a wise manner. God wants us to have lasting wealth and justice that lasts not only in this life, but also in the life to come. Things of the earth are temporal at best, and yet, they may be used to advance the Kingdom of God when we use them appropriately in “wisdom”. (See John 6:27; James 1:11 and 1 Peter 1:7) When we yield our lives to God's Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His “wisdom” to inherit “riches, honor, durable riches and righteousness” to be used and employed before His eyes.
Next time Solomon says, “my fruit is better than gold”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
