Paul
the apostle asked the people in Rome,
“What
fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed?”,
and he added, “for
the end of those things is
death.” In
chapter
six and twenty-two of Romans, Paul told his readers the benefits of,
“now
being made from sin, and become servants of God”
where
we read:
But
now being made free from sin, and become servants to God,
you
have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
The
verse begins, “But
now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ...” Paul
began with the words, “but
now”
which means “moreover and at this very moment” “being
made free”
which means “set at liberty and delivered” “from
sin”
or “away and departed from missing the mark, erring and being
mistaken”, “and
become servants”
which means “are brought into bondage and as a slave” “to
God”
or “toward the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul shared how
he, his companions and his readers were made “bondmen” to God
Almighty since they were “set free” from “sin”.
The
verse continues, “...
you
have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” Paul
added the words “you
have your fruit”
or “Paul's readers were to hold, own and possess their deeds, works
and acts” “unto
holiness”
which means “toward consecration and purification”, “and
the end”
or “and the termination, finished, closed and set out for a
definite point or goal” “everlasting
life”
which refers to “without beginning and end, that which has been and
always will be state of one who is possessed of vitality or is
animate”. As a result of being “freed from sin”, Paul's readers
were now to “possess” consecrated “acts, deeds and works” and
would inherit “everlasting
life”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how those who believe
and trust in Jesus Christ as their “Savior and Lord” are “freed”
from “sin”, have “deeds and acts” which are
consecrated and pure, and shall enjoy “life that is without end”.
God desires to give every person who will submit to His Son Jesus
each of these wonderful benefits. Jesus came to “set people free”
from “sin”, allow them to “hold and possess” pure
“deeds and acts” and to provide “eternal life” to people who
are “bound”. This is the “gospel” or “good news” of God.
Jesus came to live as a man, died for the sins of the world and was
raised the third day afterwards, and the blessings mentioned by Paul
are a result of believing and trusting in Him.
Next
time Paul tells the people in Rome about, “the
wages of sin” and
“the
gift of God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
