Paul
the apostle asked the people in Rome,
“Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ?”,
and he gave these suggestions, “shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword?” He
referred to scripture as he wrote, “As
it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”,
and he added, “No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us.”
In
chapter eight and verse thirty-eight of Romans,
Paul told his readers about things of which he was, “persuaded”
where
we read:
For
I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,
nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
The
verse begins, “For
I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, ...”
Paul
began with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “I
am persuaded” or
“Paul was convinced, confident and induced by words to believe”,
“that neither death”
which refers to “no not even the separation of the soul and the
body by which the life on earth is ended”, “nor
life”
which means “the absolute fulness of life, both essential and
ethical which belongs to God ”, “nor
angels”
which refers to “not a messenger, envoy, one who is sent or a
messenger from God ”. Paul told his readers that even “death,
life and angels”
would not be able to “separate”
him from God's “love”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to
come,”
Paul
continued with the words, “nor
principalities”
or “not magistrates, principles and rulers”, “nor
powers”
which means “not influences which belong to riches, wealth and
resources consisting in or resting upon armies, forces or hosts”,
“nor
things present” or
“not impending, threatening or close at hand things”, “nor
things to come”
which means “not things intended, in mind or in the future”. Paul
shared how “ruling forces” nor “time” issues were able to
“separate”
him from God's “love”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how there is nothing that is
able to keep the believer in God through Jesus His Son from His
“love”. “Death” itself has not power to do so,
nor does “living and life itself”. “Angels” can't
“separate” nor any other “power or rule” in
heaven or upon the earth, and things currently happening and those
which shall happen in the future have no success “separating”
from the “love of God”. Jesus Christ desires to have a
“love” relationship with every person who will receive Him
as “Savior and Lord”, and when they do, God's inseparable “love”
comes in and remains for all eternity.
Next
time Paul finishes his list of things that cannot separate believers
in Jesus from “the
love of God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
