Paul
the apostle asked the people in Rome,
“Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ?”,
and he gave these suggestions, “shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword?” He
referred to scripture as he wrote, “As
it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”,
and he added, “No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us.”
In
chapter eight and verse thirty-nine of Romans,
Paul mentions more things that in no way, “shall
be able to separate us from the love of God” where
we read:
Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall
be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus
our Lord.
The
verse begins, “Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature, ...”
Paul
began with the words, “nor
height”
which means “not things elevated such as a barrier, rampart or
bulwark”, “nor
depth” or
“extremely deep sea or poverty”,
“nor any other creature”
which refers to “not certain creations, institutions or
ordinances”. Paul added “things elevated, extremely deep or other
created things” to his list.
The
verse continues, “...
shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord”.
Paul
added the words, “shall
be able”
or “will have power whether by virtue of one's ability and
resources or a state of mind, favorable circumstances or by
permission of law or custom” “to
separate us”
which means “to divide, part, put asunder and depart from Paul, his
companions and his believing readers” “from
the love” or
“apart and separate from the affection, good will, benevolence and
unconditional love” “of
God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “which
is in Christ”
or “that is by and with the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son
of God” “Jesus”
whose name means “Jehovah
is Salvation”
and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate”
“our
Lord” which
refers to “Paul's, his companions' and his readers person to whom a
thing belongs about which he has power of deciding”. Paul shared
how none of the things he listed would “divide and part”
“believers” from “God's
love”
which is given through His Son and “our
Lord Jesus”.
When
we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how “nothing”
can “separate” believers in Jesus from “God's love”.
Some people wonder if God really loves them, and those who put their
“faith and trust” in Jesus can be assured He does. “God so
loved the world”, and He gives opportunity for every person to
have their “sins” wiped away so they can have a personal
relationship with Him. Once they do, nothing “created” can
“separate” them from “God's unconditional love”.
Next
time we
begin a new chapter and see Paul declare, “I
lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
