Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“if
you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the
Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live”,
and in chapter eight and verse thirteen of Romans,
Paul told his readers, “as
many as are led by the Spirit...are the sons of God” where
we read:
For
as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
The
verse begins, “For
as many as are led by the Spirit of God, ...” Paul
began with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, seeing then, no doubt, verily and
therefore” “as
many as are led”
or “the people who are guided, directed, impelled and moved” “by
the Spirit”
which means “through and by means of the third person of the triune
God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, co-eternal with the Father and the
Son”
“of God”
or “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul
referred to people whose lives are “directed” by “God's
Spirit”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
they
are the sons of God.” Paul
continued with the words, “they
are the sons”
which means “the people whose lives are directed by God's Spirit
are the offspring, descendants and posterity” “of
God”
or “pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Son of God”. People who
are “directed” by “God's Spirit” are considered His
“children”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how there is a direct
correlation to being “led”
by “God's
Spirit” and
being “the children” of God. Many people believe “we are all
children of God”, but according to Paul, those who are “directed”
by “the
Spirit of God”
are actually His “children”. The apostle John put it this way,
“But
as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them that believe on his name:”
(John 1:12) When a person receives Jesus Christ as their personal
“Savior and Lord”, they become God's “children” and He fills
them with His “Spirit” to overcome their “sinful
flesh”.
Next
time Paul tells his readers, “you
have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
