Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“Not
as though the word of God has taken no effect. For they are
not all Israel, which are of Israel:”,
and in
chapter nine and verse seven of Romans
Paul told his readers, “neither,
because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children”
where
we read:
Neither,
because they are the seed of Abraham, are
they
all children:
but,
In Isaac shall your seed be called.
The
verse begins, “Neither,
because they are the seed of Abraham, are
they
all children:”
Paul
began with the word, “neither”
which means “but and not even and in no way”, “because”
or
“since”
“they are the seed”
which means “the offspring, progeny and people who are from Israel”
“of
Abraham”
whose name means “father of multitudes” and refers to “the son
of Terah and the founder of the Jewish nation”, “are
they all”
or “are each, every, the whole and everyone” “children”
which means “the people of Israel”. Paul shared how just because
someone was a descendant of “Abraham”
was no assurance they were the “children
or offspring” of God.
The
verse continues, “but,
In Isaac shall your seed be called.”.
Paul
added the words, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated, “in
Isaac”
which means “within laughter which means the son of Abraham and
Sarah” “shall
your seed”
or “with the offspring, progeny and people” “be
called” which
means “saluted by name or surname”. Paul recognized within
“Isaac”
would God's “progeny and children” be “saluted by name”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how people within
“Israel”
who were “descendants” of “Abraham”
and his son “Isaac”
were ones to whom God gave His name. Just because they belonged
physically to the country of “Israel” and were the offspring of
“Abraham
and Isaac”
in no way assured them of being God's children. Many people
mistakenly believe because they belong to a certain “country” or
“heritage” they are automatically “God's
children”.
This is not so. Only people who receive God's Son Jesus as their
personal “Savior and Lord” become God's children, (“But
as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even
to them that believe on his name:”
John 1:12),
and those who are wise shall submit them lives to Him today, ask
forgiveness for their sins and allow Him to be in control of their
lives.
Next
time we
see Paul share,
“because they are the seed of Abraham”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
