Paul
the apostle asked the people in Rome,
“Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ?”,
and he gave these suggestions, “shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword?” He
referred to scripture as he wrote, “As
it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”,
and in
chapter eight and verse thirty-seven of Romans,
Paul told his readers, “we
are more than conquerors through him that loved us”
where
we read:
No,
in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us.
The
verse begins, “No,
in all these things ...”
Paul
began with the word, “no”
which means “notwithstanding, nevertheless, moreover and” “in
all” or
“within each, every, the whole and everyone of”
“these things”
which refers to “the
tribulations, distresses, persecutions, famines, nakedness, perils or
swords”.
Paul referred to his readers about everything he previously wrote
which might appear to be threatening the “love”
God has for His believers.
The
verse continued, “...
we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
Paul
added the words, “we
are more than conquerors”
or “Paul, his companions and his believing readers exist to gain
surpassing and decisive victory or to vanquish beyond” “through
him” which
means “by way and means of God” “that
loved us”
or “who has affection, content, fondness, pleasure and
unconditional love for those who believe and trust in Him”. Paul
shared how believers in God through His Son Jesus have become “far
greater” than those who win “decisive victories” over foes
because of His great “love”
and commitment to them.
When
we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how there is nothing
that can come against those whom God “loves”. Nothing can
separate them from His “love”, and though those who
believe in God through Jesus may face great conflict and opposition,
they are able to “gain surpassing and decisive victories” over
them. May all who read these words know the “conquering” power
that is available to them through a “loving” relationship
with God.
Next
time Paul adds more to his list as he tells his readers about,
“death, life,
angels, principalities, powers, things present and things to come”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
