Sin Becoming Exceeding Sinful Romans 7:13

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome, the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good”, and in chapter seven and verse thirteen of Romans, Paul shared with his readers the purpose of “the law” was, “that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful” where we read:

Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

The verse begins, Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. ” Paul began with the words, “was then” which means “therefore, consequently, accordingly and these things being so” “that which is good” which means “that which is of good constitution or nature, useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful, excellent and happy” “made death” or “performed that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended” “unto me” which refers to “Paul himself”? “God forbid” which means “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “forbid” which means “certainly and absolutely not”. Paul addressed the wonder if the “good law of God” would produce “death” in him, and he answered, “perish the thought” or “no, and not in any way”.

The verse continues, But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.” Paul added the words, “but sin” or “nevertheless and notwithstanding missing the mark, erring and being mistaken”, “that it might appear” which means “so it might come to light, be seen, exposed or come to view” “sin” or “missing the mark, erring or being mistaken”, “working death” which means “accomplishing, achieving and producing that separation (whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the life on earth is ended” “in me” which refers to Paul himself; “that sin” or “so missing the mark, erring and being mistaken” “by the commandment” which means “through the order, charge, precept and injunction” “might become” or “should be revealed and exposed as” “exceeding sinful” which means “preeminently, beyond measure and excellently above missing the mark, erring and being mistaken”. Paul shared how “the law of God” revealed there was “sin” in Paul, and the result of that “sin” was “death”. God's “commandment” made those “sins” “missing the mark and erring beyond measure'.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see the “good” in the “perfect and holy law of God”. God's law revealed there was “sin” in Paul, and he was to “die” because of it. In fact, the “commandment” of God demonstrated how manifestly wicked Paul's “sin” was against God, and therefore the “good law of God” fulfilled it's purpose. Jesus Christ is the only person who fulfilled the “law of God” perfectly, and now every person who relies upon Him for “Salvation” from “eternal death” may receive His “everlasting life”. May all who read these words both consider and submit to the awesome offer of substitution God has granted all who “believe” in His Son Jesus Christ.

Next time Paul tells his readers, “the law is spiritual: but I am carnal”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
