Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“The
Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children
of God:”,
and in chapter eight and verse seventeen of Romans,
Paul shared with his readers concerning, “heirs
of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” where
we read:
And
if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
if
so be that we suffer with him,
that we may be also glorified together.
The
verse begins, “And
if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;”
Paul
began with the words, “and
if children”
which refers to “and whether offspring and descendants”, “then
heirs”
or “therefore ones who receive by lot or has acquired the portion
allotted to him”; “heirs
of God”
which means “ones who receive by lot or has acquired the portion
allotted to him pertaining to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”
“and
joint-heirs”
which means “fellow participants who obtain something assigned to
themselves with others” “with
Christ”
or “alongside and by the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of
God”. When God's Spirit “bears witness” that people are “God's
children”,
they receive the “inheritance” that is “co-inherited” with
Jesus Christ.
The
verse continues, “if
so be that we suffer with him,
that we may be also glorified together.” Paul
continued with the words, “if
so be”
which means “if indeed and after all” “that
we suffer”
or “Paul, his companions and his believing readers feel pain and
persecution” “with
him”
which refers to “alongside Jesus”, “that
we may be also”
or “that Paul, his companions and his believing readers should even
so and indeed be” “glorified
together”
which means “approved and exalted to dignity with one another”.
When believers in Jesus “feel pain and persecution” because of
their faith and trust in Jesus, they are promised to be “exalted to
dignity” with one another.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see the relationship God desires
to have with every person. He wants a “family” of “children”
who are “heirs” to His abundant supply, and He offers
these things with the promise of “everlasting life”.
Jesus Christ provided access to God, and although there may be times
of “pain” and “persecution”, God promises to “exalt to
dignity” all who suffer on His account.
Next
time Paul writes to his readers about, “the
sufferings of this present time”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
