Paul's Truth and Conscience Bearing Witness Romans 9:1

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome, nothing and in no way, “shall be able to separate us from the love of God”, and in chapter nine and verse one of Romans, Paul told his readers, “I say the truth in Christ” where we read:

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

The verse begins, I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, ...Paul began with the words, “I say” which means “Paul uttered, proclaimed and declared” “the truth” or “what is true in any matter under consideration, in fact, reality and certainty” “in Christ” which refers to “within the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”, “I lie not” which means “Paul did not deceive or speak deliberate falsehood”. Paul assured his readers that he was not “lying” about that which he was to declare.

The verse continues, ... my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost. Paul added the words, “my conscience or “Paul's soul as distinguishing between what is morally good and bad which prompts to do the former and shun the latter while commending one and condemning the other” “also” which means “even and indeed” “bearing me witness” or “testifying or corroborating by evidence” “in the Holy Ghost” which refers to “within the most pure, morally blameless or religiously and ceremonially consecrated third person of the triune God who is coequal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son”. Paul's own “conscience” testified of his truth through God's “Holy Spirit”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how it was important for him to assure his readers concerning his next thoughts. Paul passionately desired for them to know he was declaring the “truth”, and those who have compassion for others constantly want this in their lives. Care for others magnifies when a person has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus came to die for the sins of the world, and when He did, He gained access to God as well as His “love” not only for the person themselves, but also for others they may know. God loves everyone, and He pours that “love” and concern for others into those who receive His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”.

Next time we see Paul declare how he has, “great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
