Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,“sin,
taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me”,
and
in
chapter
seven and verse twelve of Romans, Paul told his readers, “the
law is holy, and the commandment holy”
where
we read:
Wherefore
the law is
holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
The
verse begins, “Wherefore
the law is
holy, ...” Paul
began with the word, “wherefore”
which means “therefore, insomuch that and so then” “the
law”
which means “the rule producing a state approved of God” “is
holy”
or “pure, morally, religiously, ceremonially sacred and
consecrated”. Paul concluded that “God's
law”
is “pure and sacred”.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
and the commandment holy, and just, and good.” Paul
continued with the words, “and
the commandment”
or “and the order, charge, precept and injunction is” “holy”
which means “pure, morally, religiously, ceremonially sacred and
consecrated”, “and
just”
or “upright, virtuous, innocent, guiltless and faultless”
“and good”
which means “and useful, salutary, pleasant, agreeable, joyful,
excellent and happy”. God's “commandment” is also “sacred,
virtuous and agreeable” according to Paul.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how he expresses the value of
“God's law”. “God's law” is “pure and
sacred”, and His “commandment” is “virtuous, pleasant,
and morally pure”. In other words, there is nothing amiss with the
“law of God”. The problem is with those who attempted to
keep “God's law”. They cannot do so, and only Jesus was
able to keep it perfectly. This is why He is the Messiah, Savior and
Redeemer of mankind. He paid the price for people's failure to keep
God's “perfect and holy” law, and made a way for all who put
their “faith and trust” in Him to have “everlasting life”.
God's law is perfect. We are not, and therefore we need a “Savior”,
“Jesus” to “save” us from our “sins”.
Next
time Paul asks his readers how, “was
then that which is good made death unto me?”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
