Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“the
gifts and calling of God are
without repentance”,
and
in
chapter eleven and verse thirty of Romans,
Paul referred to how they have, “yet
have now obtained mercy through” Israel's
“unbelief”
where
we read:
For as you in times past have not believed God,
yet have now obtained
mercy through their unbelief:
The
verse begins, “For
as you in times past have not believed God,
...”
Paul
began with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “as
you in times past”
or “like the believing readers in Rome formerly, aforetime and at
some time” “have
not believed”
which means“did not allow themselves to be persuaded, refused and
withheld belief and obedience” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul
referred to the time when the Gentile believers in Rome “refused to
comply” with God and His salvation plan.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:”.
Paul
continued with the words, “yet”
or
“moreover and” “have
now”
which
means “at this present time have” “obtained
mercy”
or “received aid for the afflicted and the wretched” “through
their unbelief”
which means “by means of the people in Israel's obstinacy and
opposition to the divine will”. Paul shared how the people in Rome
who were “non-believers” now “received” God's “pity and
aid” because Israel rejected it and they received it.
When
we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see the advantage that was
extended to the “Gentle believers” in Rome because Israel
rejected the “gospel” even though they at one time did not
“believe” God's plan. This opportunity is the same today.
People who do not believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, died for
their sins and was raised from the dead on the third day may change
their minds and hearts and believe. At that point, God's “mercy”
is extended to them, and they become “saved”. God desires
for everyone to believe His “salvation plan” through His Son
Jesus, and His “mercy” may be “obtained” for
all who do.
Next
time Paul shares with his believing readers in Rome, “through
your mercy they also may obtain mercy”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
