Paul
the apostle ask the people in Rome,
“who
are you that reply against God? Shall the thing formed say to him
that formed it, Why have you made me thus?,
and he added,
“Has
not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one
vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?”
In
chapter nine and verse twenty-two of Romans,
Paul asked his readers, “what
if God...endured with much long-suffering the vessels of his wrath”
where
we read:
What
if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known,
endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to
destruction:
The
verse begins, “What
if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, ...”
Paul
began with the words, “what
if God”
which means “moreover and whether the Godhead bodily and trinity
which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy
Spirit”, “willing”
which
means “had in mind, intended, resolved, determined and purposed”
“to
show his wrath”
or “to point out, demonstrate, prove, manifest, display, and put
forth by arguments or by acts”, “and
to make”
or “to recognize, gain knowledge or, certify, declare and
understand” “his
power”
which means “God's ability, might, strength and influence”
“known”
or “recognized, gained knowledge or, certified, declared and
understood”. Paul considered the possibility that God desired to
“demonstrate, prove and manifest” His “anger and indignation”
as well as His “might, ability, strength and influence”.
The
verse continues, “...
endured
with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:”
Paul
added the word, “endured”
which means “carried, bore, moved inwardly, prompted, applied and
conducted” “with
much long-suffering”
which means “large amounts of patience, endurance, constancy,
steadfastness and perseverance” “the
vessels”
or “the implements and utensils” “of
wrath”
which means “anger, temper, violent emotion and indignation”
“fitted”
or “rendered sound, complete and make one what he ought to be”
“to
destruction”
which means “toward perishing, ruin which consists of eternal
misery in hell”. Paul recognized God “patient” “bearing”
with those who are “rendered as destined for eternal misery in
hell”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how “patient” God is
with people who are “destined” for His “wrath”.
Though they are, God still “endures and perseveres” with them and
desires
that
they turn their lives toward Him. God sent His Son Jesus to die for
the “sins of the whole world” and every person has an opportunity
to know Him as “Savior and Lord”. Those who receive Him know the
“love, mercy and grace” of God, and those who reject Him shall
certainly know His “anger”. Those who are wise shall accept Jesus
Christ today while God is “patiently” waiting for them to do so.
Next
time we
see Paul tells his readers how God,
“might make known
the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
