Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome how Hosea in the Old Testament
prophesied,
“I
will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved,
which was not beloved”,
and in
chapter nine and verse twenty-six of Romans,
Paul continued his thought as he told his readers, “there
shall they be called the children of the living God”
where
we read:
The
verse begins, “And
it shall come to pass, that
in the place where it was said unto them, ...”
Paul
began with the words, “and
it shall come to pass”
which means “it shall be in the future and follow”, “that
in the place” or
“within an inhabited
place which is marked as a city, village or district
” “where
it was said”
which means “which shall pour forth and utter” “unto
them”
or “toward the Gentiles”. Paul continued Hosea's words as he
referred to the “scripture” reference which said more about the
Gentiles. (See Hosea 1:10).
The
verse continues, “...
You
are
not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living
God.”
Paul
added the words, “you
are not”
which means “the Gentiles were not previously” “my
people”
which refers to “God's human beings whether male or female, people
group, tribe, nation or all those who are of the same stock and
language”
; “there
shall they be called”
or “these Gentiles will be invited and bid to be” “the
children”
which means “the offspring and descendants” “of
the living God” or
“the live, active and blessed Godhead and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
Paul completed Hosea's thought as he referred to the Gentiles who
were not previously God's people, but were destined to be the “living
and active” “children
of God”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how it is destined for the
Gentiles to become the “children”
of
Almighty God. Though the Jews were offered God's plan of salvation
first, the Gentiles were also to be included in the “gospel” or
“good news” of Jesus Christ. Jesus came to save both Jews and
Gentiles, and when people “believe and trust” in Him as their
personal “Savior and Lord”, they become His
“children”.
Every nation, tribe, people and language are invited to accept Jesus
Christ as their “Lord”,
and those who do become “ the children
of the living God”
immediately.
Next
time we
see Paul quote from Isaiah as he wrote,
“though the
number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant
shall be saved”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
