Paul
the apostle told each believing person in Rome, “not
to think of
himself
more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according
as God has dealt to every man the measure of faith”,
and in chapter
twelve and verse four of Romans,
Paul told them how they are, “many
members in one body”
where
we read:
For
as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the
same office:
The
verse begins, “For
as we have many members in one body, ...”
Paul
began with the words, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “as
we have many”
or “since Paul, his companions and his believing readers have large
and plenteous” “members”
which refers to “limbs or parts of a body” “in
one body”
which means “within a certain living corpse”. Paul referred to
how there are “many parts” in “one body”.
The
verse continues, “...
and all members have not the same office”.
Paul
added the words, “and
all members” which
means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the limbs or
parts of a body”
“have
not the same”
which
means “do not have the selfsame” “office”
or “mode of action, dealing and transacting”. Though there are
“many members” in the body, they do not all “act or transact”
in an “identical” fashion.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we understand there are many
parts to the “body of Christ” which is His church. Each of these
parts, even as our own physical bodies, have a different function and
manner of acting. Jesus Christ came into the world to “save”
people from sin's penalty - death, and afterward they become a part
of His “body” the church. Each “member” is important,
and although they are used in different ways, God has a plan and a
purpose for every one of them.
Next
time we see Paul tell his believing readers in Rome, “so
we, being many, are one body in Christ”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
