Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“The
word is near you, even
in your mouth, and in your heart:
that
is, the word of faith, which we preach;”,
and in
chapter ten and verse nine of Romans,
Paul told his readers what happens if you, “confess
with your mouth...and believe in your heart”
where
we read:
That
if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus,
and
shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead,
you shall be saved.
The
verse begins, “That
if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus,”
Paul
began with the words, “that
if you shall”
which means “because and since in case Paul's readers will”
“confess”
which means “say the same thing as another, agree with, not refuse,
assent and declare openly” “with
your mouth”
or “by the orifice used for speech in the front of the face of
Paul's readers” “the
Lord”
or “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power
of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah” “Jesus”
whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God,
the Savior of mankind and God incarnate”. Paul presented the
condition of “saying the same things as and agreeing with” the
“Lord
Jesus”
Christ.
The
verse continues, “and
shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead,
you shall be saved.”
Paul
added the words, “and
shall believe”
which means “and will think to be true, be persuaded of, credit and
place confidence within” “in
your heart”
which means “within Paul's readers' soul or mind as it is the
fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites,
affections, purposes and endeavors”
“that God”
or “that the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “has
raised him”
which means “aroused, awoke, resurrected and stirred up Jesus”
“from
the dead”
or “away from and separate from those who have breathed their last,
departed, deceased, are without life and inanimate”, “you
shall be saved”
which means “those who believe will be keep safe and sound and
rescued from danger or destruction”. Paul gave the second condition
as “having faith and confidence within one's mind and soul that God
raised “Jesus
from the dead”
to be “rescued from danger and destruction” by God.
When
we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see the two necessary
elements to “salvation” from God - “confess with your
mouth the Lord Jesus” and “believe in your heart that God
has raised him from the dead”. When a person complies with
these, God promises they shall be “saved” from eternal
“danger, destruction and damnation”. God knew people were on a
path to “eternal death” and “separation” from Him, and He
sent His Son Jesus to die for their sins, raised Him from the dead
and received Him into Heaven as an “appeasing sacrifice” for
every person. Now all that is necessary is for a person to “agree
and say the same as God” and “have full confidence and trust”
that God “raised” Jesus “from the dead”. When
these things happen, “salvation” is theirs. May all who read
these words comply with God's initiative, and “confess”
and “believe” today.
Next
time we
see Paul tell his readers, “with
the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
