Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“the
righteousness which is of faith speaks on this wise, Say not in your
heart, Who
shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from
above:),
and
in
chapter ten and verse seven of Romans,
Paul continued his question as he asked his readers, “who
shall descend into the deep?”
where
we read:
Or,
Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again
from the dead.)
The
verse begins, “Or,
Who shall descend into the deep?”
Paul
began with the word, “or”
which means “either” “who
shall descend”
which means “what person is able or capable to go or come down”
“into
the deep”
which refers to “towards the abyss or unbounded and bottomless
pit”. Paul questioned his readers as to what person was able to “go
down” into the “abyss”.
The
verse goes on to say, “
(that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) ”
Paul
added the words, “(that
is”
which means “which refers to”, “to
bring up Christ”
which means “to lead up to a higher place, launch or loose”
“again”
or “another time” “from
the dead”
which means “away or separated from one who has breathed his last,
lifeless or inanimate” Paul clarified his words about “descending
into the deep” by directing his believing readers' thoughts to the
ability of a person to “resurrect Jesus from the dead”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how he declares the
limited ability of any person while implicated God as all-powerful.
Not even “death” could hold Jesus in the grave because God
is mightier than “death”. God has purposed for people to be in a
relationship with Him through Jesus Christ His Son, and He sent Jesus
to the earth to live as a sinless man, die for the sins of the world
and to be raised from the grave three days later. This provided the
pathway for “salvation” to every person who “receives” Jesus
Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”. No one but God is
able to “descend into the deep” and to “raise the dead”,
and God alone provided the way to “salvation” for mankind.
Next
time we
see Paul tell his readers how,
“the
word is near you, even in your mouth”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
