After
sharing about God desiring to extend his “mercy”
to all people, Paul the apostle excitedly declared to the people in
Rome,
“O
the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!”,
and he added, “how
unsearchable are
his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” In
chapter eleven and verse thirty-four of Romans,
Paul rhetorically asked his believing readers, “who
has know the mind of the Lord?”
where
we read:
For
who has known the mind of the Lord? or who has been his counselor?
The
verse begins, “For
who has known the mind of the Lord?”
Paul
began with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “who
has known”
which means “what person whether male or female has learned,
perceived or understood” “the
mind”
which means “comprising alike the faculties of perceiving and
understanding and those of feeling, judging and determining” “of
the Lord”
which means “pertaining to he to whom a person or thing belongs
about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to
God the Messiah”. Paul questioned what person is able to “perceive
and understand” God's “way of thinking, feeling, judging or
determining”.
The
verse goes on to say, “or
who has been his counselor?”.
Paul
continued with the words, “or
who” or
“that” “has
been”
which
means “became, came into existence, received being, passed and
happened as” “his
counselor”
or “God's advisor or consult”? Paul continued his questioning
as he asked who could “advise or counsel” God?
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how he asked who among
people could ever completely understand God? Who among people could
be God's “counsel”, and who could give Him “advise”? These
questions certainly are expected to be answered, “no one”,
however, when it is thought through, many people attempt to read
God's mind or give Him “advice” all the time. Of course, this is
a useless exercise, because God's wisdom and understanding far
exceeds any person. God gave Jesus,“His only begotten Son”,
to “save” everyone from sin and death. Those who receive Jesus
Christ as their “Savior and Lord” have aligned themselves with
God's “mind” toward mankind and know He needs no “advice
or counsel” from them.
Next
time Paul asks his believing readers in Rome about, “giving
to God”
and
being “recompensed
unto him again”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
