The Father and Son Know Each Other - John 10:15

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep. The hireling flees, because he is a hireling, and cares not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of my sheep”, and in chapter ten and verse fifteen of his book John shared how Jesus said, “As the Father knows me, even so know I the Father” where we read:

As the Father knows me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

The verse reads, “As the Father knows me, even so know I the Father: John began with Jesus' words, “As the Father” which means “as God the Heavenly Father” “knows me” or “understands, perceives and has knowledge of me, Jesus”, “even so know I the Father” which means “also and indeed Jesus understands, perceives and has knowledge of God the Heavenly Father”. John shared how Jesus said His “Heavenly Father, God” “knew” Him, and He “knew” His “Heavenly Father, God”.

The verse continues, “and I lay down my life for the sheep. John added Jesus' words, “and I lay down my life” which means “and I, Jesus, put aside, carry no longer and set forth my, Jesus', vital force which animates the body and shows itself in breathing and is the seat of the feelings, desires, affections and aversions” “for the sheep” or “on behalf of the four footed, tame animal which are accustomed to graze”. John shared how Jesus told those listening to Him that He “put aside and set forth” His own “life” on behalf of the people whom He referred to as “sheep”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn not only that Jesus “knows” His Father God, but also that God “knows” Him, and Jesus gave His “life” on behalf of His “sheep” which are the people who trust in, rely upon, cling to and have confidence in Him. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to save people from their sins so they may have a personal relationship with Him. Those who examine the life of Jesus will realize He died on the cross for them, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “other sheep I have, which are not of this fold", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
