Psalms chapter twenty-two begins with David asking, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?”, and in chapter twenty two and verse two of Psalms David said, “O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you hear not;” where we read,
O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
The verse begins, “O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you hear not;” David began with the words, “O my God” which means “O, my, David's, Divine ruler, judge and Supreme God”, “I cry in the daytime” or “I, David, call out, utter a loud sound and make proclamations within the time from sunrise to sunset”, “but you hear not” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover you, Jehovah God, do not respond, testify, speak and answer”. David cried aloud to Jehovah God during the daytime hours, but He did not respond to or answer Him.
The verse goes on to say, “and in the night season, and am not silent.” David continued with the words, “and in the night season” or “and within the protective season of nighttime hours from sunset to sunrise”, “and am not silent” which means “and still do not exists as quiet, still and repose”. David shared how he was not quiet in the “night” hours as he cried out to Jehovah God.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David “cried aloud” to Jehovah God in both the daytime and nighttime hours, but he was not responded to by Him. In other words, Jehovah was silent while David shouted aloud for Him. Sometimes God is silent when we have difficulties, and because He did not respond to His Son Jesus as He hung on the cross, it may be the same for us. God has His plan, purpose and will for our lives, and when we submit to His Son Jesus as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and remain with us forever. He may not seem to respond sometimes, and those times provide opportunities for us to trust Him without ever hearing Him speak a word.
Next time David says, “You are holy, O you that inhabit the praises of Israel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
