A Judge Without Fear and Regard - Luke 18:2

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”, and in chapter eighteen and verse two of his book Luke wrote how Jesus spoke about, “a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man” where we read:

Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

The verse reads, “Saying, There was in a city a judge, ... Luke began with the word, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”, “there was in a city” which means “there existed within a dwelling place, where people live or a town” “a judge” or “an arbiter or one who passes or arrogates to himself judgment on anything”. Luke shared how Jesus began to talk about an “arbiter” within a particular “town”.

The verse goes on to say, “... which feared not God, neither regarded man:” Luke continued with the words, “which feared not God” or “who was not struck with awe, seized with alarm or afraid of the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “neither regarded men” which means “nor and not in any way reverenced or respected people whether male or female”. Luke shared how Jesus said the “judge” within the “city” did not have any “awe” or “reverence” for God nor did he “regard or respect” any person.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn about another person whom Jesus employed to convey a “Heavenly and spiritual” principle. This time He uses a “judge” within a particular town who had no “regard or respect” for “God” or people. Jesus will say more about this “judge” in our next verse, however, for now let us realize how much God loves every person and wants to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus Christ. Let all who read these words take heed to the words of Jesus and yield their lives to the One who knows the character of every person who lives.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus spoke about, “a widow” saying, “avenge me of my adversary”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
