Does the Master Thank the Servant? - Luke 17:9

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus asked His disciples, “which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird yourself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward you shall eat and drink?”, and in chapter seventeen and verse nine of his book Luke wrote how Jesus asked, does he than that servant because he did the things that were commanded him?where we read:

Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

The verse reads, “Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? Luke began with the words, “does he thank that servant” or “does the disciple afford joy to, show pleasure and delight in, treat with sweetness, charm, goodwill, loving-kindness and favor” “because he did the things” which means “since and on account that the servant produced and performed” “that were commanded him” or “that were arranged, appointed, ordained, prescribed and given order to do”? Luke shared how Jesus asked His disciples whether the master of the “servant” would “take pleasure and delight” in him because he did what he was supposed to do.

The verse continues,I trow not.Luke added the words, “I trow” or “I, Jesus, am of the opinion, suppose and think” “not” which means “no and not in any way”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciple He did not “think” in any way the “master” of the “servant” would “take pleasure and delight” in him because he did his job.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus questioned His disciples as to whether they would “commend and take pleasure” in their “servant” when they performed their expected responsibilities. In other words, a “servant” is not usually “praised and honored” just because they perform their job. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with everyone of them through His Son Jesus. When they submit themselves to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, they have the opportunity “serve” Him without regard to their own acknowledgment and accreditation.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus told His disciples they should say, we are unprofitable servantsso read ahead, and we shall join together then.
