Hear the Unjust Judge - Luke 18:6

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus, “spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man. And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man. Yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me”, and in chapter eighteen and verse six of his book Luke wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “hear what the unjust judge says” where we read:

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.

The verse reads, “And the Lord said, ... Luke began with the words, “and the Lord” or “and the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah who is Jesus” “said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Luke shared how Jesus began to give instruction to His disciples concerning this parable.

The verse goes on to say, “... Hear what the unjust judge says.” Luke continued with the words, “hear what” or “be endowed with the faculty of hearing, not deaf, attend to and consider that which” “the unjust judge says” which means “the unrighteous, morally wrong and deed violating arbitrator and one who passes or arrogates to himself judgment on anything utters, declares and proclaims”. Luke shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to “listen carefully” to the words of the “unrighteous judge”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn why Jesus shared this “parable” with His disciples. He wanted them to pay particular attention to the words of the “unjust judge” because the “judge” demonstrated the way God will respond to those who are persistent in prayer to Him. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they may go to Him over and over again with their requests. Those who are wise will yield to Jesus and watch their persistence enjoy the purpose and plan of God.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus asks, “shall not God avenge his own elect?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
