As the Lightning - Luke 17:24

The beloved physician Luke wrote about Jesus, “when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when you shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and you shall not see it. And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-four of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, “as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven … so shall also the Son of man be” where we read:

For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

The verse reads, “For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines unto the other part under heaven; Luke began with the words, “for as the lightning” or “even so, indeed and no doubt like a gleam of a lamp, a glare or a bright shining”, “that lightens out of the one part” which means “that shines or flashes apart from one portion” “under heaven” or “beneath the aerial heavens or sky or the region where the clouds and the tempests gather and where thunder and lightning are produced”, “shines unto the other part under heaven” which means “emits a beam, radiant brilliancy and gives light to the opposite portion beneath the aerial heavens or sky or the region where the clouds and the tempests gather and where thunder and lightning are produced”. Luke shared how Jesus referred to the way “lightning” spans the sky, and in the blink of an eye travels from one side of heaven to the other.

The verse goes on to say,so shall also the Son of man be in his day.Luke continued with the words, “so shall also” or “even so and indeed will” “the Son of man be” which means “the Son of God who is Jesus exist” “in his day” or “within Jesus' time”. Luke shared how Jesus said He would appear within His “day” in the same manner as the “lightning” flashes across the sky.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we discover how “instant” Jesus' coming will be. Even like “lightning” flashes quickly across the sky, Jesus will appear in His glory. God desires every person to know Him through His Son Jesus, and when they submit their lives to Him, they will be prepared for His appearing regardless of how sudden it shall appear.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says He, “must suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
