The Faithful Receiving His Own - Luke 16:12

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus told the story of an unjust steward, and afterwards said, “the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?, and in chapter sixteen and verse twelve of his book Luke wrote how Jesus said, if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?” where we read:

And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's,

who shall give you that which is your own?

The verse reads,And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's, ... Luke began with the words, “And if you have not been faithful” or “and whether those listening to Jesus have not existed as trustworthy, confiding and as ones who can be relied upon” “in that which is another man's” which means “in things which belong to other people or strangers” the following question will be asked. Luke shared how Jesus began to ask a question by referring to a person who is “unreliable” caring for things which belong to someone else.

The verse goes on to say, “... who shall give you that which is your own?Luke continued with the words, “who shall give you” or “what person whether male or female will grant, bestow, supply and furnish to the people listening to Jesus” “that which is your own” which means “things that are allocated and possessed by those listening”? Luke shared how Jesus questioned what person would provide for those listening to Him if they have not been “faithful” in things that belong to someone else.

When we mediate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus questioned what a person receives “personally” if they have not been “faithful” with things that belong to others. In other words, a person reveals their “faithfulness” by how they manage things they do not possess personally, and this determines whether or not they shall receive their own. God desires to grant people various blessings, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (See James 1:17), and many times the condition for those “gifts” is whether a person remains “trustworthy” with “gifts” possessed by others. Those who are wise will submit to God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” and be “faithful and trustworthy” with everything He provides whether they are possessed by them personally or whether they belong to someone else.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus said, no servant can serve two mastersso read ahead, and we shall join together then.
