Father, Glorify Your Name - John 12:28

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor. Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-eight of his book John shared how Jesus prayed, “Father, glorify your name” where we read:

Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying,

I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

The verse reads, “Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, John began with the words, “Father, glorify your name” which means “Heavenly Father God, praise, honor, magnify and extol your everything which the name covers including the thoughts or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”. “Then came there” or “at that time arose and appeared at that place and location” “a voice from heaven” which means “sound or tone of uttered words apart from the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. John shared how Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father to “honor and extol” His own “name”, and afterward, a “sound and tone of uttered words” came from the Heavenly “region”.

The verse continues, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” John added the words, “I have both glorified it” which means “I, the Heavenly Father, have honored, extolled, magnified and praised God's own name”, “and will glorify it again” or “and shall honor, extol, magnify and praise the Heavenly Father's name another time”. John shared how the “voice from heaven” declared that God Himself would not only “honor and extol” His own name at the present time, but also would do so in the future as well.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn see how Jesus directed the “honor and glory” He may have received to His Heavenly Father. Jesus desired for God Himself to “glorify” His name, and by doing so, Jesus “honored” the Father as well. All glory, honor, praise and extolling is extended to God, and when Jesus fulfilled His plan of salvation for mankind, God was magnified. Jesus Christ came to die on the cross and be raised from the dead three days later to provide access to God the Father, and anyone who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Let all who read these words “glorify” the name of God Almighty.

Next time John shares how, “the people, therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
