The Master is Come - John 11:28

The apostle John wrote how Martha told Jesus that she knew her brother would rise from the dead on the last day, however Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this? She said unto him, Yes, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-eight of his book John shared how Martha summoned her sister Mary and told her, “the Master is come, and calls for you” where we read:

And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying,

The Master is come, and calls for you.

The verse reads, “And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, ... John began with the words, “and when she had so said” which means “and at the time and moment she, Martha, uttered, declared and proclaimed her belief in Jesus”, “she went her way” or “she, Martha, left and departed”, “and called Mary her sister” which means “and beckoned and summoned her female sibling Mary whose name means their rebellion” “secretly” or “privately”. John shared how Martha left Jesus after she told Him she “believed” and went “privately” to summon her sister “Mary” by saying the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... The Master is come, and calls for you. John continued with the words, “The Master is come” which means “the Teacher has arisen and appeared”, “and calls for you” or “and beckons, summons and invites you, Mary”. John shared how Martha told Mary that Jesus had “come” and He was asking her to come to Him.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Martha wanted her sister Mary to know that Jesus had “come” to them and that He was asking for her. News like Jesus gave to Martha is to be shared, and every person should understand Jesus invites everyone to have a personal relationship with Him. In the same manner Jesus “summoned” Mary, He summons everyone to believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who believe in Him will be forgiven of their sins, establish a relationship with God and inherit everlasting life with Him. Let all who read these words personally hear the words of Martha, “The Master is come, and calls for you”.

Next time John shares how Mary, “as soon as she heard that, she arose quickly”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
