Your Brother Will Rise Again - John 11:23

John the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “Lazarus is dead. And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him. Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. Now Bethany was near unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off. And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house. Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it to you”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-three of his book John shared how Jesus said to Martha, “your brother shall rise again” where we read:

Jesus said unto her, Your brother shall rise again.

The verse reads, “Jesus said unto her, ... John began with the words, “Jesus said” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto her” or “to Martha”. John shared how Jesus responded to “Martha's words” with the following statement.

The verse goes on to say, “... Your brother shall rise again. John continued with the words, “your brother” which means “Martha, your male sibling” “shall rise again” or “will raise up, arise and appear another time”. John shared how Jesus told “Martha” that her “brother Lazarus” would “arise” another time.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus confidently told “Martha” that “Lazarus” would “reappear”. Though everyone thought “Lazarus” was “dead and gone forever”, Jesus knew “Lazarus” would be alive again. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to provide people with “everlasting life” with Him, and anyone who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus will be forgiven of their sins so they may inherit this “eternal life”. Jesus had an “everlasting” plan in mind when He came to “save” mankind, and those who are wise will surrender themselves to the only One who provides “everlasting life” with God and promises they shall indeed “rise again”.

Next time John shares how Martha says to Jesus, “I know that he shall rise again”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
