Seeing the Glory of God - John 11:40

The apostle John wrote after Martha and Mary the sisters of Lazarus plead to Jesus, He asked, “ Where have you laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. Jesus wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him. And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? Jesus therefore again groaning in himself came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. Jesus said, Take you away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, said unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he has been dead four days”, and in chapter eleven and verse forty of his book John shared how Jesus asked, “said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?” where we read:

Jesus said unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?

The verse reads, “Jesus said unto her, Said I not unto you, ... John began with the word, “Jesus said unto her” which means the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed to Martha”, “said I not unto you” or “did I, Jesus, not utter, declare and proclaim to you, Martha” the following words. John shared how Jesus responded to Martha's statement about Lazarus stinking with the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?” John continued with the words, “that, if you would believe” or “that, whether you, Martha, would trust in, rely upon, cling to and have confidence in me, Jesus”, “you should see” which means “you, Martha, would observe, notice and discover” “the glory of God” or “the praise, honor, splendor and brightness which belongs to the Godhead and trinity”? Jesus asked Martha if she remembered His words about “believing” and the way it would bring about the “splendor, brightness and majesty” of “God”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus responded to Martha's reasoning about the body of “Lazarus” stinking since he was in the grave four days. Though the physical “facts” seemed unchangeable, Jesus was there, and believing and trusting in Him could alter the situation. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to “raise” the “spiritually dead” from their eternal destinations of damnation, and when people put their “faith and trust” in Him, their eternity will change. Jesus is willing to “save” all who will yield their lives to Him and simply “believe”, and those who do will “see the glory of God”.

Next time John shares how Jesus prays, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
