Jesus Comes to Bethany - John 12:1

The apostle John wrote concerning Jesus, how the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should show it, that they might take him”, and in chapter twelve and verse one of his book John shared how Jesus, “came to Bethany” where we read:

Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany,

where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

The verse reads, “Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, ... John began with the words, “then Jesus” which means “at that time the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “six days before the passover” or “six sunrises to sunsets in advance and prior to the paschal sacrifice (which was accustomed to be offered for the people's deliverance of old from Egypt)” “came to Bethany” which means “arose and appeared to the village of Bethany which means house of dates or house of misery and was located on the east bank of the Jordan where John was baptizing”. John shared how “Jesus” appeared in “Bethany” six “sunrises to sunsets” in advance of the “paschal sacrifice or feast”.

The verse goes on to say, “... where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.” John continued with the words, “where Lazarus” which means “in the place and location that Lazarus whose name means whom God helps” “which had been dead” which means “who was lifeless, inanimate and expired”, “whom he raised from the dead” or “that Jesus stirred up, raised and resurrected from the destitute of life, without life and inanimate”. John shared how Jesus went to the location where “Lazarus” whom He raised from the dead lived with his sisters Martha and Mary.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn where Jesus was “six days before the paschal sacrifice. Jesus returned to the home of His friends in “Bethany” and “Lazarus” whom He raised from the dead was there. Jesus was traveling toward Jerusalem where He would be celebrated, arrested and eventually crucified for the sins of the world. God loves people and desires to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus, and anyone who surrenders their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life in Heaven with Him. Let all who consider Jesus' purpose, path and travels receive Him as their “Savior and Lord”.

Next time John shares how, “there they made him a supper”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
