Receive My Instruction and not Silver - Proverbs 8:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understands, and right to them that find knowledge”, and in chapter eight and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “receive my instruction, and not silver” where we read,

Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

The verse begins, Receive my instruction, and not silver;” Solomon began with the words, “receive my instruction” or “take, fetch, lay hold of, seize and acquire my, wisdom's, discipline, chastening and correction”, and not silver which means “and not in any way or manner precious silver metal”. Solomon instructed his readers and listeners to lay hold of and seize wisdom's discipline and chastening, and put aside precious silver metal.

The verse continues, “and knowledge rather than choice gold .” Solomon added the words, “and knowledge” or “and perception, skill and wisdom” “rather than choice gold” which means “instead and in place of precious gold metal”. Solomon told his listeners and readers to seize the perception and skill of “wisdom” instead of the valuable metal gold.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how valuable “wisdom” and skill actually are. Precious metals such as silver and gold are to be put aside compared to “wisdom”. God wants us to conduct ourselves in wise ways, and when we seek Him with all our hearts, souls, minds and wills, He will give us a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the errors, wrongs and sins of everyone. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide His valuable “skill and understanding” for the circumstances and situations we encounter every day.

Next time Solomon says, “wisdom is better than rubies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
