Because of their Unbelief - Mark 6:6

Mark wrote how Jesus, “went out from there, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Judah, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them, and in chapter six and verse six of his book, Mark writes how Jesus, “marveled because of their unbelief” where we read:

And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

The verse reads, “And he marveled because of their unbelief. Mark began with the words, “and he marveled or “and Jesus was amazed and wondered in amazement” “because of their unbelief” which means “since and on account of the people's unfaithfulness, weakness of faith and disbelief”. Mark shared how Jesus “was amazed and wondered” at the “weakness of faith” within the people in His “own country”.

The verse goes on to say, And he went round about the villages, teaching.” Mark continued with the words, “and he went round about the villages” which means “and Jesus traveled and went forth unto the sleeping places, abodes, towns and villages”, “teaching” which means “giving instruction and didactic discourses”. Mark shared how Jesus continued to travel to the nearby “towns and villages” where He “taught” the people there.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus was not only “amazed” at the “lack of faith” within the people in His “own country” but also went on to “teach” others. God wants every person to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, however, if they refuse to accept Him, He will move on to others who are open hear His word. Let all who read these words consider who Jesus is and seek to “hear” Him and His teachings concerning “everlasting life”.

Next time we see Mark share how Jesus sends out His disciples, “two by two”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
