Mark wrote how Jesus, “called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits. And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse. But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats. And he said unto them, In what place soever you enter into an house, there abide till you depart from that place. And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when you depart there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city”, and in chapter six and verse twelve of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus' disciples, “went out, and preach that men should repent” where we read:
And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
The verse reads, “And they went out, ...” Mark began with the words, “and they went out” or “and Jesus' disciples left and departed”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples left Him after He gave them instructions.
The verse goes on to say, “... and preached that men should repent.” Mark continued with the words, “and preached” which means “and heralded, proclaimed and declared” “that men should repent” or “that people both male and female should change their minds to the better, heartily amend with abhorrence their past sins and think differently”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciples began to “herald and declare” that people should “amend their hearts, ways and thinking”.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' disciples were now involved in sharing the “gospel” of the Kingdom of God. Jesus began His teaching by saying, “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand”, and now His disciples were declaring the same. God wants people to “amend their ways” and align with Him, and when they humble themselves and submit to Jesus, they begin to transform their attitudes, actions and ways. Let all who read these words “repent” and align themselves with the ways of God.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus' disciples, “cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
