Luke the physician shared about Jesus' lineage who came through Matthat, Levi, Melchi, Janna, Joseph, Mattathias, Amos, Naum, Esli, Nagge, Maath, Mattathias, Semei, Joseph, Juda, Joanna, Rhesa, Zorobabel, Salathiel, Neri, Melchi, Addi, Cosam, Elmodam, Er, Jose, Eliezer, Jorim, Matthat, Levi, Simeon, Juda, Joseph, Jonan, Eliakim, Melea, Menan, Mattatha, Nathan, David, Jesse, Obed, Booz, Salmon, Naasson, Aminadab, Aram, Esrom, Phares, Juda, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Thara, Nachor, Saruch, Ragau, Phalec, Heber, Sala, Cainan, Arphaxad, Sem, Noe, Lamech, Mathusala, Enoch, Jared, Maleleel, Cainan, Enos, Seth, Adam and finally God, and in chapter four and verse one of his book Luke shared how Jesus “was led into the wilderness” where we read:
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan,
and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
The verse reads, “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, ...” Luke began with the words, “and Jesus” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “being full of the Holy Ghost” which means “existing as lacking nothing, complete and perfectly covered by the pure, morally blameless and religiously and ceremonially consecrated third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son” “returned from Jordan” or “came back apart and separated from the one river of Palestine and has its course of little more than 200 miles (300 km), from the roots of Anti-Lebanon to the head of the Dead Sea which name means the descender”. Luke shared how Jesus was “filled with God's Holy Spirit” and left from the area of the “Jordan” river.
The verse goes on to say, “... and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” Luke continued with the words, “and was led” which means “and was guided and accompanied to go” “by the Spirit” or “with third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son” “into the wilderness” which means “toward the solitary, lonely, desolate and uninhabited desert”. Luke shared how Jesus was “guided” by God's Spirit to go to the “solitary desert” place.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover another direction in the life of Jesus the Messiah. After being “baptized” and having the “Spirit” of God descend upon Him in the bodily form of a dove, Jesus was “filled” with the Holy Spirit and “guided” by Him to depart into a “lonely desert” area. We shall discover why He was “led” there in the next few verses, but suffice it for now to realize Jesus Himself was “directed” by the Holy Spirit, and those who are wise will be “led” by Him as well. God's desire is not only to “save” people from their sins, but also to “lead” them as their “Lord”. Those who are wise will not only submit their lives to Jesus, but also make themselves available to be “led” by the Spirit of God.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus was, “forty days tempted of the devil”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
