Luke the physician shared how “And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong”, and in chapter four and verse thirty of his book Luke shared how Jesus was, “passing through the midst of them” where we read:
But he passing through the midst of them went his way,
The verse reads, “But he passing through the midst of them ...” Luke began with the words, “But he passing through” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding, moreover and Jesus walking, journeying, piercing and making His way through” “the midst of them” which means “the middle or center of the people who desire to destroy Him”. Luke shared how Jesus simply “slipped” through the crowd of angry people while they were attempting to “cast” Him off the cliff.
The verse continues, “... went his way, ...” Luke added the word, “went” which means “led, carried and departed from the people” “his way” or “toward Jesus' own path and travel”. Luke shared how Jesus simply left the “wrath filled people” and traveled His own path.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we observe the marvelous way which Jesus handled an angry mob. Though they thought they had Jesus in their possession, He simply slipped through them and went about His way. To even think they could somehow “capture” and throw Jesus off a cliff was a ludicrous idea especially since He was the Son of God and Creator of the world and all that is within it. Yet, today, there are many who attempt to “cancel” the idea of Jesus the Messiah and “Savior” of the world. If they could, they would attempt to “cast” Him out of society and the remembrance of Him would be no more. Regardless, Jesus came to die for the sins of the very ones who “hate” Him and want Him destroyed, and if they only turn their lives over to Him as a personal “Savior and Lord”, not only will He forgive their sinful ways, but He promises to give them “everlasting life” with God. Let all who read these words be aware of God's love through His Son Jesus and yield their lives to Him today.
Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “came down to Capernaum”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
