Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam,
The verse reads, “Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, ...” Luke began with the words, “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Enos” which means “mortal man”, “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Seth” which means “compensation or appointed” “which was the son of” or “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “Adam” which means “the red earth or man”. Luke shared the final three earthly names of the men who were in the lineage of Jesus - “Mortal man, compensation and the red earth or man”.
The verse continues, “... which was the son of God.” Luke added the words, “which was the son of” which means “who was the offspring and progeny belonging to” “God” or “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how “God” began the lineage of His Son Jesus who created man to live upon the earth.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn more of the story of God to save mankind through His Son Jesus. “Mortal man, compensation and the red earth or man” were the focus and attention of God as mankind forsook their relationship with Him through their “sin”. (See Genesis 3). From that point on, God's plan was the “redemption of people”, and “mortal man” would be given the opportunity to gain “immortality” which would be the “compensation or appointment” for “man”. God loves people, and from the “fall” of mankind in the book of Genesis to the final words in the book of Revelation, God's purpose and intention is to give all people the opportunity to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who are wise will examine God's “gospel” given through the names in Jesus' lineage and yield their lives to Him.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see Luke share how Jesus, “was led by the Spirit into the wilderness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
