Born of Water and of the Spirit - John 3:5

John the apostle shared how, “There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that you do, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?”, and in chapter three and verse five of his book, John shared how Jesus answered, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” where we read:

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,

he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

The verse reads, “Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, John began with the words, “Jesus answered” which means “Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate responded and began to speak”, “Verily, verily” or “truly, truly or surely, surely” “I say unto you” which means “I, Jesus, utter, declare and proclaim to you, Nicodemus”, “Except a man be born” or “unless a person whether male or female is begotten, engendered and birthed” “of water” which means “pertaining to physical water” “and of the Spirit” or “and pertaining to the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son” the following condition exists. John shared how a person must be “born” not only “physically as in water”, but also of the “Spirit”, which is a “spiritual birth”, or else the following result will occur.

The verse goes on to say, “... he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John continued with the words, “he cannot enter” which means “the person whether male or female is unable, incapable and without the ability to make entrance or come forth” “into the kingdom of God” or “into the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how Jesus declared “entrance” into God's Kingdom is “impossible” without being “born again”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn one of the most important principles of God that may ever be known. Jesus said a person “must” be “born again”, and without being “born again”, a person cannot enter into God's Kingdom. God wants every person to believe and trust in His Jesus so they can be “spiritually born” and gain entrance into His Kingdom. When a person is “born”, they relate to others through the “soul, mind and body”, but their “spirit” which relates to God is “dead”. They must be “born again spiritually” to have a personal relationship with God. This is why Jesus came, and He will have more to say about this in our next few verses. Let all who consider Jesus' words know they “must be born again” and receive Jesus to be made “spiritually new”.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
