John the apostle wrote, “there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease”, and in chapter three and verse thirty-one of his book, John shared how John the Baptist tells his disciples, “he that comes from above is above all” where we read:
He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly,
and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all.
The verse reads, “He that comes from above is above all:” John began with the words, “He that comes from above” which means “He, Jesus, who arises and appears from a higher place or heaven” “is above all” or “exists as higher in rank, place and position over everyone”. John shared how Jesus descended from a “higher place, heaven” and is “over and above” every other person.
The verse goes on to say, “he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all.”. John continued with the words, “he that is of the earth is earthly” which means “the person whether male or female who belongs to the arable land, ground, territory, country and region exists from the arable land, ground, territory, country and region”, “and speaks of the earth” or “and utters, tells and talks about the arable land, ground, territory, country and region”: “he that comes from heaven” which means “the person, Jesus, whose origin, place and position arises and appears from the region the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “is above all” or “exists as higher in rank, place and position over everyone”. John shared how a person who is from the “earth” lives according to “earthly things” and “talks about it”, and Jesus, who arose and appeared from “Heaven” is over and above everyone.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how there is a difference between people who are “from the earth” and live their lives in “earthly” and Jesus who is from “Heaven” and is superior to everyone who is upon the “earth”. God sent His Son Jesus from Heaven to the “earth” that He might live and dwell among people, and His purpose was not only to identify with them, but also to “die” for their sins so they may forever live with Him. God loves everyone, and He wants them to yield their lives to His “superior Heavenly Son Jesus”, and when they do, they shall be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with Him.
Next time John shares how John the Baptist says concerning Jesus, “what he has seen and heard, that he testifies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
