John the apostle wrote, “the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine. Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you? my hour is not yet come. His mother said unto the servants, Whatsoever he says unto you, do it. And there were set there six water-pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece”, and in chapter two and verse seven of his book, John shared how Jesus told the servants, “fill the water-pots with water”, where we read:
Jesus said unto them, Fill the water-pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
The verse reads, “Jesus said unto them, Fill the water-pots with water.” John began with the words, “Jesus said unto them” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation uttered, declared and proclaimed to the servants at the wedding”, “Fill the water-pots with water” which means “make full the “water jars” with water”. John shared how Jesus instructed the “servants” at the wedding to “make full” the “water jars” with “water”.
The verse goes on to say, “And they filled them up to the brim.” John continued with the words, “and they filled them up” which means “and the servants made full the water jars” “to the brim” or “to the upward, above and high mark”. John shared how the “servants” at the wedding obeyed Jesus and “filled” the water jars to their tops.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus gave instructions to the “servants” at the wedding feast to “fill” the “water jars” that were nearby with water. This was part of the process for Jesus solving the problem of the lack of “wine” at the wedding feast, and He used “natural things” to perform a “supernatural” miracle. Jesus came to demonstrate His power over not only “physical things”, but also “spiritual ones”. Mankind had no means to free them from the bondage and penalty of sin, and Jesus came to pay the price for the “wages” thereof. (See Romans 6:23) Everyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit eternal life with God. Let all who read these words allow Jesus to work the “supernatural” within their “natural” lives.
Next time John shares how Jesus told the servants, “Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
