Philip - John 1:43

John the apostle wrote how John the Baptist said about Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God! And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said unto them, What are you seeking? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where do you dwell? He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother He first found his own brother Simon, and said unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, You are Simon the son of Jona: you shall be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone”, and in chapter one and verse forty-three of his book, John shared how Jesus, “finds Philip” where we read:

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee,

and finds Philip, and said unto him, Follow me.

The verse reads, “The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, ... John began with the words, “the day following which means “the sunrise to sunset after Jesus met Simon” “Jesus” which means “to the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “would go forth” or “had in mind, intended, resolved, determined and purposed to travel and journey” “into Galilee” which means “into the name of a region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan whose name means circuit”. John shared how Jesus desired to travel into the area known as “Galilee”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and finds Philip, and said unto him, Follow me.” John continued with the words, “and finds Philip” which means “and met with, discovered and observed Philip whose name means lover of horses”, “and said unto him” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to Philip”, “Follow me” that means “accompany, side with and join me, Jesus, as an attendant”. John shared how Jesus discovered “Philip” and instructed him to be His “attendant”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn about another one of Jesus' disciples. This time Jesus desired to go into “Galilee” where He met “Philip” and called Him to be His “attendant or disciple”. Jesus was gathering together the men He would later use to share His “gospel” throughout the world. Jesus continues to look for “disciples” today, and whoever submits themselves to Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, receive everlasting life with God and be employed to share the “good news” of Jesus with whomever they are able.

Next time John shares how, “Philip was of Bethsaida”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
