John the apostle wrote, “the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine”, and in chapter two and verse four of his book, John shared how Jesus told His mother, “my hour is not yet come” where we read:
Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you? my hour is not yet come.
The verse reads, “Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you?” John began with the words, “Jesus said unto her” which means “Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate uttered, declared and proclaimed to His mother Mary”, “Woman” which means “female human”, “what have I to do with you” or “what even so and indeed do I, Jesus, have a concern alongside you, Mother”? John shared how Jesus questioned His “mother” about her concern for Him being involved with their absence of wine.
The verse continues, “my hour is not yet come.” John added the words, “my hour” which means “my, Jesus', season and definite time” “is not yet come” or “is not present or has not arrived”. John shared how Jesus told His mother that His “definite time” had not arrived yet.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus responded to His mother informing Him about the lack of “wine” at the wedding feast. Both Jesus and His mother knew He could solve the problem, but Jesus reminded her that “His time” had not arrived. Jesus came to save people from the penalty of sin which is death, and His plan was to proceed step by step according to the Heavenly Father's plan. Though Jesus had the power to alter conditions immediately, He submitted to His Father's timing, and everyone who submits to Him will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God.
Next time John shares how Jesus's mother tells the servants, “Whatsoever he says unto you, do it”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
