John the apostle wrote, “the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage”, and in chapter two and verse three of his book, John shared, “when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine” where we read:
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine.
The verse reads, “And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, ...” John began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “they wanted wine” which means “the people within the wedding feast desired wine from fruit juice”, “the mother of Jesus” or “the immediate female progenitor or ancestor” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus” the following words. John shared how Jesus' “mother”, Mary, approached Him and informed Him the wedding party desired “wine”.
The verse goes on to say, “... They have no wine.” John continued with the words, “they have” which means “the wedding party holds, owns and possesses” “no wine” or “not any wine from fruit juice”. John shared how Jesus' “mother” told Him the wedding party was deplete of “wine”.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how a “need” developed at this wedding feast. Running out of “wine” would be very unfavorable and embarrassing for the hosts of the festival, and Jesus' mother, Mary, knew Jesus would be able to solve their dilemma. Even as Jesus was the “answer” to their problem, He solves the “spiritual need” of every person who submits their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. “Sin” is a spiritual problem for everyone, and Jesus is the “answer” to that which no one else can supply.
Next time John shares how Jesus tells His mother, “my hour is not yet come”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
