The Beginning of Miracles - John 2:11

John the apostle wrote, “the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said unto him, They have no wine. Jesus said unto her, Woman, what have I to do with you? my hour is not yet come. His mother said unto the servants, Whatsoever he says unto you, do it. And there were set there six water-pots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus said unto them, Fill the water-pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And he said unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not from where it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, And said unto him, Every man at the beginning does set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but you have kept the good wine until now”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of his book, John shared “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee”, where we read:

This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory;

and his disciples believed on him.

The verse reads, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; John began with the words, “This beginning of miracles” which means “this origin, start and initiation” “did Jesus” which means “performed and produced the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “in Cana” or “within the village in Galilee about five miles Northwest from Nazareth whose name means place of reeds” “of Galilee” which refers to “belonging to the name of a region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan whose name means circuit”, “and manifested forth” or “and made known, realized and exposed” “his glory” which means “Jesus' splendor, brightness, preeminence, dignity, grace and majesty”. John shared how turning “water into wine” was the “first” miracle Jesus performed within “Cana of Galilee” which made known His “splendor and majesty”.

The verse continues, “and his disciples believed on him.” John added the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “believed on him” or “were persuaded of, had confidence in and trusted Jesus”. John shared how Jesus' immediate followers and “students” began to “believe” in Him after this miracle.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how this miracle, turning water into wine in Cana of Galilee, was the first of Jesus' supernatural works. Jesus came to the earth to demonstrate He is indeed the Messiah and Christ of God, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will receive a “miracle” within their own lives even as their “sin” will be removed and they shall be granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let all who read these words submit themselves to Jesus who began His earthly “miracles” in Cana, but continues to work His “miracles” in the lives of people today.

Next time John shares how Jesus, “went down to Capernaum”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
