Never Thirsting Again - John 4:14

John the apostle wrote how Jesus, “came to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There came a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus said unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then said the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that you, being a Jew, ask drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that said to you, Give me to drink; you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water. The woman said unto him, Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from where then have you that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself,

and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again:”, and in chapter four and verse fourteen of his book, John shared how Jesus told the woman, “whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst where we read:

But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

The verse reads,But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;” John began with the words, “But whosoever drinks” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover whatever person whether male or female who imbibes and receives” “of the water that I shall give him” which means “pertaining to the spiritual water that I, Jesus, will grant, bestow, furnish and supply to the person” “shall never thirst” or “will not in any way or fashion be athirst or feel want and eagerly long for those things by which the soul is refreshed, supported and strengthened”. John shared how Jesus told the “Samaritan woman” whatever person “imbibes” of His “spiritual water” would never again “long for and desire” to be refreshed and strengthened in their soul.

The verse continues, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.. John added the words, “but the water” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the spiritual water” “that I shall give him” or “that I, Jesus, will grant, bestow, furnish and supply to the person ” “shall be a well of water” which means “will exist as a fountain or spring of spiritual water” “springing up into everlasting life” or “leaping and gushing up to never ending or ceasing vitality which is real and genuine, vigorous and devoted to God.” John shared how Jesus told the “Samaritan woman” He could provide her and any other person with “eternal, never ending and never ceasing” “spiritual water that would be like a “fountain” gushing up from their souls.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus was able to provide “spiritual water” that would “fully satisfy” all who partake of it, and the result would be an “eternal” “fountain” that would “spring up” from within them. God knows “temporary things” within the world only “satisfy” a person for a small amount of time, and afterward, they “thirst again”. Regardless of whether it is a material possession, venture, trophy or relationship, there always seems to be a desire for more in only short time after possessing or obtaining that thing. God desires to bring “satisfaction” to everyone through a personal relationship with His Son Jesus, and when they submit themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will provide them with a “fountain” from within that continually supplies their every need.

Next time John shares how the woman says to Jesus, “sir, give me this water, that I thirst not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
