Behold the Lamb of God - John 1:36

John the apostle wrote how John the Baptist baptized Jesus and said, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you shall see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizes with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-six of his book, John shared how John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God” where we read:

And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!

The verse reads, “And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, ... John began with the words, “And looking upon Jesus which means “and turning his eyes upon, gazing toward and considering Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “as he walked” which means “while and during the time Jesus was ambling and making progress”, “he said” or “John the Baptist uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. John shared how John the Baptist “gazed upon” Jesus as He was “walking” along and “proclaimed” the following words.

The verse considers, “... Behold the Lamb of God!” John added the word, “Behold” which means “lo, look, see and consider” “the Lamb of God” or “the Lamb belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”! John shared how John the Baptist declared Jesus to be God's “sacrificial Lamb”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how John the Baptist recognized Jesus as God's “sacrificial Lamb” for the second time. (See John 1:29) John the Baptist's mission was to be the “forerunner” to the Messiah and Christ who was Jesus, and as he observed Him walking by, John the Baptist acknowledge and announced Jesus again. God loves people, and His purpose for sending Jesus was so He could die for their sins. Everyone who puts their faith and trust in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins because Jesus was the “sacrificial lamb” who paid the penalty for sins with His life. Let everyone who reads these words “Behold the Lamb of God” who came to die on their behalf.

Next time John how, “the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
