John the apostle shared how, “there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying. And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. He that has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all. And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no man receives his testimony. He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true”, and in chapter three and verse thirty-four of his book, John shared how John the Baptist said concerning Jesus, “he whom God has sent speaks the words of God” where we read:
For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God:
for God gives not the Spirit by measure unto him.
The verse reads, “For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God:” John began with the words, “For he whom God has sent” which means “because, since and on account the person who was dispatched and assigned by the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “speaks the words” or “utters, declares and proclaims the discourse, message and narrative” “of God” which means “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John shared how John the Baptist declared the “Person, Jesus who is the Messiah” dispatched and assigned by “God Himself” “utters and proclaims” “God's” “words”.
The verse continues, “for God gives not the Spirit by measure unto him.”. John added the words, “for God” which means “because, since and on account that the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “gives not the Spirit” or “does not grant, bestow, furnish or supply the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son” “by measure unto him” which means “through or by means of limits, determined portions or due fit of rule or standard of judgment”. John shared how John the Baptist said “God” did not “limit” the “Holy Spirit” given unto Jesus.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how “God” was responsible for “dispatching and assigning” Jesus the Messiah to the world, and He did so without any limits to the operation of the “Holy Spirit” within Him. Jesus came not only to identify with mankind, but also to demonstrate the “power” of God that is able to provide “salvation”. Jesus was both “God” and “man”, and He manifested both attributes while He was on the earth. He gave His “earthly” life so people could be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with Him. Those who are wise will heed John the Baptist's statement about Jesus and submit their lives to Him.
Next time John shares how John the Baptist says concerning Jesus, “the Father loves the Son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
