The apostle John wrote how Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, where are you going? Jesus answered him, Where I go, you cannot follow me now; but you shall follow me afterwards. Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake. Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto you, The cock shall not crow, till you have denied me three times”, and in chapter fourteen and verse one of his book John shared how Jesus says, “Let not your heart be troubled” where we read:
Let not your heart be troubled: you believe in God, believe also in me.
The verse reads, “Let not your heart be troubled:” John began with the words, “Let not your heart” which means “do not allow or permit your, disciples of Jesus', soul or mind as they are the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavors to” “be troubled” or “to exist as agitated, stirred up, disturbed and disquieted”. John shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to not allow their “souls and minds” to be “disquieted and disturbed”.
The verse goes on to say, “you believe in God, believe also in me.” John continued with the words, “you believe in God” which means “you, disciples of Jesus, trust in, rely upon, cling to and have confidence within the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “believe also in me” or “trust in, rely upon, cling to and have confidence even so and indeed within me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus referred to the way His disciples put their “faith and trust” in His Father God, and He instructed them to have “confidence” in Him as well.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus directed His disciples toward where they should place their trust. He made reference to their “trust and faith” in His Father God, and He encouraged them to “rely upon and cling to” Him as well. God the Father desires a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield to Him, He forgives their sins and grants them everlasting life. Many people “trust or believe” in God, however, they have no relationship with Jesus at all. Jesus is God's access to a relationship with Him, and those who are wise will carefully study all Jesus had to say about putting their “faith and trust” in Him.
Next time John shares how Jesus says, “in my Father's house are many mansions”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
