Wash My Feet, My Hands and My Head - John 13:9

The apostle John wrote how Jesus, “rose from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then came he to Simon Peter: and Peter said unto him, Lord, do you wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do you know not now; but you shall know hereafter. Peter said unto him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash you not, you have no part with me, and in chapter thirteen and verse nine of his book John shared how Peter told Jesus, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head” where we read:

Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

The verse reads, “Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, ... John began with the words, “Simon Peter said unto him” which means “Simon which means a little rock, Peter whose name means a little rock or stone uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus”, “Lord” or “One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”, “not my feet only” which means “not my, Peter's, physical feet alone” but also the following. John shared how “Simon Peter” became very interested in having more than his “physical feet” washed by Jesus if it meant he would have “no part with” Jesus.

The verse goes on to say, “... but also my hands and my head.” John continued with the words, “but also my hands” which means “nevertheless, notwithstanding and moreover even so and indeed my, Simon Peter's, physical hands” “and my head” or “and my, Simon Peter's, physical head” as well. John shared how “Simon Peter” offered his “hands and head” to be “washed and cleansed” by Jesus if it meant he could have “part with” Him.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how “Simon Peter” became very interested in receiving a cleansing from Jesus after He told him the person who refuses to have Him serve him would have “no part with” Him. Jesus came into the world to “serve” people, and when He died upon the cross for the sins of mankind, He performed the greatest act of service that shall ever be given. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who “served” them. Anyone who surrenders their life to Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life with God, and those who are wise will desire to be “cleansed” by Jesus to receive all the blessings He has in mind.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “He that washed needs not to save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
